Bio

It’s all about ‘80s new wave music! GLASS BLOCS celebrates the classic new wave favorites from the ’80s with a British/Euro slant and Miami flair.

The band consists of five musicians from South Florida who crossed each other’s paths from band try-outs and musician networking. Lead singer/guitarist Chris Donaghy migrated to Miami in 2015. He met lead guitarist Steve Harriman and synthesizer/keyboard player (then bassist) Jason Zack when trying out for their local band, Crash the Jag. Bassist Tony Schreiber and drummer Louis LaFontisee met Chris in previous jams and tryouts separate of their own extensive band histories in the area. Through it all, a recognized love for new wave music came to light, and GLASS BLOCS was born, debuting live in January 2023 at the new Magic 13 Brewery.

The 80s Resurgence

GLASS BLOCS is a passion project for the band members, one steeped in a love for the genre and a recognition of its ongoing popularity. New wave appeals broadly. It’s a melding of pop, industrial, punk, rock, electronic and disco resulting in broad audience appeal, across generations. Many of the popular bands of the era are still making great music and touring, I.e. Tears For Fears, The Fixx, Psychedelic Furs, Depeche Mode, The Cure. New bands are keeping the sound fresh, bands like White Lies, ACTORS, Billy Howerdel, MCC, Anders Manga and Bob Moses, to name a few - and nostalgia-fueled media is making the charts look more like it is 1985 than 2023, according to American Songwriter.

"It could be that the rise in an ’80s pastiche, via Stranger Things and Top Gun: Maverick, is reminding music listeners of the insatiably catchy, and pulsing hits of the era"

“Today, ’80s music is still popular because it was a time of significant change and creativity. The diversity of ’80s music continues to appeal to people of all ages, and the classic songs from this era are still enjoyed by millions worldwide.”

"The 1980s, in particular, have greatly impacted the music we listen to today. The music of the '80s is taking over the pop charts, and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon."
